Network Engineering Manager for a Wireless ISP

Job Location: North Lake Tahoe/ Truckee

Start Date: Immediate

Pay Range: Depending on Experience

General requirements:

  • 5 or more years in network technology work experience including 2 years of wireless field experience with commercial-grade fixed wireless technology preferably in the public spectrum bands
  • A college degree. Equivalent combination of education, experience and certifications may be substituted
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to relocate to Lake Tahoe.  Flexibility to travel overnight
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

 

Job Skill Requirements:

  • Experience working in technical operations at an ISP
  • Technical team management experience managing at least 5 team members.
  • A strong background in network engineering
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • In-depth knowledge of 802.11, OFDM, site surveys, IP, Cisco equipment
  • Experience with VLAN, and IP utilization management
  • Excellent understanding of interconnection and troubleshooting techniques for WAN/LAN hardware focusing on routers and wireless access points
  • Solid knowledge of Internet architecture and security practices
  • Advanced PC and Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to solve complex issues and deal with a variety of problems in situations where limited information exists
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical knowledge and training to technical and non-technical personnel

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan (RF propagation and AP locating) and deploy wireless infrastructure using point to multi-point and point to point fixed wireless equipment
  • Plan build/install wired network infrastructure
  • In-field installation and management of wireless technicians in several northern California regions. This is not a desk job or pure management role.  This job requires ladder / tower work
  • Assume responsibility for the uptime and day to day operation of wireless and wired networks
  • Participate with overall strategic technology planning activities
  • Manage the technology team (hiring, evaluating, work-planning, training)
  • Conduct research and work with vendors to test/deploy new equipment
  • Provide support to sales, customer support
